Consider the matter of education. Over a hundred years ago the Japanese government decided that education was important for the nation’s welfare and that everyone should know how to read and write and that occupational skills had to be acquired.
As a nation, we have never made such a decision. Instead, it was less than 40 years ago that the Supreme Court ruled that educational discrimination was illegal! Of course the consequences of a discriminatory educational system are still with us. President Bush thinks he can win votes by trying to blame Gov. Clinton for being awarded a post-graduate scholarship to Oxford to enhance his educational experience - a new way for a president “to kick a little ass.”
If Clinton and Gore are elected, they will alter the attitudes in government on a score and more of important public policies - education included. How refreshing that would
