As things now stand, we are currently spending over 300 billion dollars a year on defense, 285 billion on Social Security and 200 billion in interest on the national debt. If we the people allow this to go on for another two years, interest on the national debt will exceed social security expenditures, the economy will con-" tinue to stagnate, we won’t be competitive in the market place, unemployment will increase along with social unrest and interest rates will probably increase to 15 percent or more thus farther weakening our fragile economy. . * Its time for all responsible citizens to demand that our government ibite the bullet. As mature adults we must realize that we cannot continue the disastrous and irresponsible policies of the past 12 years. As Hobart Rowan says, “There is a link between the decline in America’s global clout and the role played by the deficit.” I hope Mr. Herndon has noted that Republican Pete Domehid and Democratic Senator Sam Nunn are jointly saying that the nation’s economic survival depends on action in ’93. They say that nearly two trillion dollars will be required in spending cuts and tax increases to balance the budget. The evidence is overwhelming that we need a real change, a new direction and not four more years of what we have been getting.
