Bears took up a large part of the time of the Board of Supervisors at Monday’s meeting.
Game Warden Jim Bankston came to the meeting to discuss the large number of complaints about bears this year. He said that 24 bears had been trapped in the county this year and relocated to other parts of the state. The supervisors had asked him to come because of the large number of complaints they have received from people complaining about bears damaging crops.
Mr. Bankston said that last year he received no complaints about bears. For the past 17 years, Mr. Bankston said, the county has averaged 10 to 12 bears a year that have been trapped and moved. With none last year and 24 this year, that averages 12 per year for the past two years, he said.
