The varsity Panthers are in an eight game losing streak and coach Gary Leake admits he doesn’t know quite how to handle it.
As the season began he had a 14man squad. He lost one to injury before the first game, three more for discipline reasons and yet another dropped off the team after exams.
To fill the gaps he has brought up two players from the Junior Varsity squad: Andre Fletcher and Jeff Holder; and added one from the student body: Jason Waters. For the last three games of the season Leake will field a team with one freshman, five sophomores, four juniors and only two seniors.
“That means we have six players eligible for JV participation,” Leake said. “We have the best JV team playing varsity competition in the district,” he said.
This squad will play George Mason at home tonight (the game was postponed from Tuesday) and then goes on the road Thursday to play Manassas Park and ends the season Friday night at Clarke.
