Richmond - In the next few weeks, some 79,000 sixth graders and other middle school students across Virginia will be taking three tests that may impact the rest of their academic careers.
From Feb. 15 to March 5, public schools throughout the state will be giving the Virginia Literacy Passport Tests. State law requires that every student pass skills tests in reading, writing, and mathematics before being classified as a ninth grader.
In Rappahannock County the writing test will be given on Feb. 17. The mathematics test will be given on Feb. 23 and 24 and the reading test is scheduled for Feb. 25.
The tests are offered once a year. Students must retake any of the Literacy Passport Tests they do not pass. Those who do not pass the tests in sixth grade may take the
