Pony racing gives young riders the change to demonstrate their riding skills before large race crowds, an experience especially important for riders who may be planning to make race riding a career.
Pony racing in Virginia is as popular as ever. This spring, seven race cards will list pony races.
The pony races commence at the Rappahannock Hunt Point-to-Point in Sperryville on Feb. 27, and continue through the Old Tavern Races at Great Meadow in The Plains on May 22.
Trophies will be presented to the young jockeys with the leading points in three divisions — small, medium and large — at the Virginia Pointto-Point Awards Party on May 30 at the Middleburg Community Center.
