From Page 18 Hunt Point-to-Point. She was second at Foxfield, Strawberry Hill and the Virginia Gold Cup in the spring. One start at Delaware Park in July resulted in her only off-the-board finish.
She began the autumn with a second at Foxfield’s fall meet. Her victory at Morven Park was followed with a neck near-miss at the International Gold Cup.
Frazier summed up the campaign, saying “Considering her age. 1 eight-years-old] and the fact that she still runs with the young hurdle horses, I just wish we’d gotten her as a three^yearold. . .”
Silent Spiral will again this spring carry Collette’s distinctive green silks with a white hoop of playful dolphins (yet another reference to fish.) Collette said that she will continue to breed for steeplechase prospects.
“This yearling in here, ” Collette said, pointing to a tall, dark filly in an airy box stall. “She’s by Spicy Story and out of Kalanchoe [a mare that was second in the ’88 Breeder’s Cup Steeplechase to Jimmy Larenzo.] This one is my Breeder’s Cup hope. . .
“It’s exciting to think for the future like that. Barbara and I started together and continue to learn together,” she went on. “One thing is for sure, though, when Silent Spiral retires from racing, she has a lifetime home. ”
