Jimmy Day — Stakes-placed hurdler Intelligent Choice will race over timber as a new convert to the lumber this season as Day’s first-ever timber runner. New to Day’s Millwood training center this year is a horse purchased from the flat in Maryland, sevenyear-old Bail Denied.
Four-year-old Chump Man will start on the turf, following up his maiden victory last fall at Shenandoah. Sea Fighter, a Group I winner in Europe, will race over hurdles for owner (and trainer’s mother-in-law) Mrs. Matthew Mackay-Smith. Wise One and Explosive Madam will return over hurdles for Day, who is an Irish native.
New owner Bob Oury. is set to start his racing career on Explosive Madam, who is an allowance winner on the flat. Day said that Oury will race in the owner-rider hurdle division this spring.
Doug Fout — The Plains’ Fout said that his stable is also brimming over with young talent. He said that Camden three-yearold victor Wetlands would be out again this spring, for owner Catherine Rochester.
Fout said that he is training Master Julian for his mother, Eve, and also stakes-placed Lexington Ball. The hard-running Lexington Ball is slated to start in early April.
