The mayor won't quit
At last week’s town council meeting Dean Morehouse continued his dogged efforts to get the town a more modern water system. On the table was a resolution, mostly fdled with legal boiler plate, that came to the council from the Farmers Home Administration by way of too many attorneys.
The resolution provided written proof of the work the mayor has accomplished in the past two months. To put it simply, the entire project was about to fail. Thanks to state regulatory agencies the bids for the new water system were much higher than anticipated. All of the extra cost was contained in an updated, state-of-the-art, all stainless steel filtration and pumping system that is now “required.” These new requirements boosted the price tag by nearly $100,000. . The mayor’s job was simple: find the extra money or give up on the entire project. He admitted after the meeting that the resolution represents several months of hard politicking. It also represents yet another grant, this one for $97,200.
When the backhoes finally begin digging up the streets later this year to replace antiquated water pipes, the town will owe the mayor a huge “Thank you!”
