Burning Kaii in effect
Forest Warden Tippy Jenkins reminds residents that, as of March 1, the state's burning law went into effect. Under the law, from now until May 15, outside burning of any kind within 300 feet of any woods or grasslands is prohibited before 4 p.m. The fine, Warden Jenkins noted, has been increased this year to $500. For residents thinking about doing clearing and burning, a call to Warden Jenkins to check on fire conditions is recommended. Recycling center to open Nina Stamer, the county's litter coordinator, announced this week that the long-awaited recycling center will soon be built at the county landfill in Amissville. Landfill operator Harold Artz is awaiting a break in the weather to pour a concrete pad for the shed, she said. RALLY! plans the official opening of the center on Saturday, May 13 from 9-11:30 a.m.
