Timothy Andreae, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Andreae of Bentonville, traveled to Gunstoek, N.H., March 2-5 to compete in the Eastern Junior Olympic Qualifier, skiing in the slalom and giant slalom.
Andreae was one of 12 boys and seven girls in the 14-15 year age group selected at the Pennsylvania Alpine Ski Championships at Elk Mountain, Pa., to the Pennsylvania Alpine Ski Team. The team members represent the best ski racers in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina.
Young Andreae is a ninth-grader at Wakefield School in Huntly. He won the Wakefield Cup as best overall boy skier at Wakefield this year.
Local artist, Helen Jean Smith, is donating a whimsical watercolor “portrait" of Washington, Va., to benefit Wakefield School.
The painting represents a fantasy view of the turn of the century of the town of “Little Washington,” showing old-fashioned activities. It is a winter scene done in a primitive style. Mrs. Smith has created several village scenes in a similar style of Woodstock. Lance Mills and Delaplane.
Mrs. Smith has agreed to have a limited number of prints made of her "Little Washington” village watercolor. Each print may be purchased for $40 with a $10 donation to benefit Wakefield School. Every print after the first 100 will generate a $5 donation to the school.
Mrs. Smith will be displaying her watercolor of “Little Washington” in the local area until it is put up for bid at Wakefield’s annual auction, to be held this year at Airlie House in Warrenton on April 15.
