FREDERICKSBURG —The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) in Culpeper has awarded a $1,500 scholarship for use by a current senior at Mary Washington College majoring in computer science.

The society announced that Penny L. Winslow of Spotsylvania County will be the first recipient of the new scholarship award.

The recipient of the award must meet specified academic qualifications, show demonstrated financial need, and be a resident of Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania or Fauquier county.

Selection of the recipient is made by the college’s associate dean for financial aid in consultation with the chairman of the computer science department.
