MIDDLETOWN — Lord F airfax C ommunity College, in cooperation with area gypsy moth coordinators, is sponsoring a gypsy moth seminar on Saturday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the college campus in Middletown.
This is a regional seminar that will include a discussion of many aspects of the gypsy moth problem, such as detection and monitoring, life cycle, sprays, private applicators and alternatives to spraying.
The seminar is free of charge and is designed primarily for residents of Frederick, Clarke, Warren, Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Page

In spring, the fancies of many people turn to gardening.
In response to that widespread interest, the Friends of the State Arboretum at Blandy Experimental F arm, in Boyce, will sponsor a series of lectures by specialists in various aspects of gardening.
The first lecture in the series will be given by Gregg Bleam, from the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia. The lecture, titled “Plants and the Garden Room” will be at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 30 (not March 23 as listed in the newsletter calendar), in the Blandy Library.
Garden rooms, for the uninitiated, are areas walled by shrubbery or trees to create outdoor “rooms.” Landscaping within the room may be simple or elaborate.
