A small machine called Infolink eliminates the need to answer the phone for messages and reports from the x-ray department. The radiologist writes a message on his Infolink, and the Infolink in the emergency department writes the same message.
The emergency department will soon have a telecommunication device for the deaf, TDD, given by the MidDay Lions of Culpeper. The TDD enables hearing or speech impaired persons to communicate through the telephone. To use a TDD, a person types messages on a keyboard and reads the return conversation on a small display screen.
One treatment room is devoted to young patients. Cheerful wall hangings soothe little ones as they face unfamiliar situations. Besides the decor, the equipment in this room is scaled to children. "Pediatric equipment and supplies are kept on a cart in this room, and the sink is large enough to bathe a baby,” said Rose Gooch, RN, coordinator of the Emergency Department.
