For centuries, lamb has traditionally been connected with Easter.

This is in part because of the association of the Messiah as the Agnus Dei, the sacrificial Lamb of God. The tradition also exists because throughout the Mediterranean where many Christian traditions originated, springtime is the season to consume the excess male lambs before the shepherd leads the flock to summer pastures.
