Mitchell
George William “G.W.” Mitchell, 88, of Montrose Farm, Culpeper, died March 18 at The Cedars in Charlottesville.
Mr. Mitchell was bom November 12, 1900, in Rockingham County, the son of the late Elzira Scott Mitchell and Benjamin Burruss Mitchell. In 1909 Mr. Mitchell moved to Rappahannock County and from there to Culpeper County in 1918. His father, Professor B. B. Mitchell, was principal of Washington, Va. High School in Rappahannock and of Brandy High School, Culpeper. In 1938 he was married to Mary Louise Trice of Newport News.
Mr. Mitchell was a retired treasurer of Culpeper and a retired farmer.
Additional survivors besides his wife include two sons, G.W. Mitchell Jr., Warrenton and James T. Mitchell, Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. Charles K. Gvory, Culpeper; one brother, B.B. Mitchell II, Culpeper; and six grandchildren.
Masonic services were held March 21 at Clore Funeral Home.
Graveside services were held March 22 at the Culpeper Masonic Cemetery with the Revs. Edward Leonard and Marvin Cook officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Culpeper Volunteer Rescue Squad of the Culpeper Volunteer Fire Department.
