The opening of the Giles H. Miller Ambulatory Services Center and Alice H. Strauss Emergency Department put a new face on the west entrance of CMH this year and a new perspective on health care.
With the west entrance for outpatients and east entrance for visitors and inpatients, CMH created in one building two patient care centers which share support departments.
The polarization of inpatient and outpatient occurred as a result of changes in the way Medicare and other insurance reimburse for hospital care. In responding to those changes in the way health care is delivered, CMH kept a clear picture of what patients need along with excellent medical care.
Accessibility, convenience, and privacy are a large part of the design of the new emergency department and registration area. Patients who come for outpatient services park close to the entrance, register in a separate area, and walk to nearby departments for lab, x-ray, physical therapy, and emergency.
Visitors and inpatients will enjoy the same convenience when the space for admitting, business office, data processing, administration, employee relations, and community relations is completed near the front entrance
After the emergency staff moved to their new quarters in December, work swiftly began to transform the vacated emergency area into the new surgical suite.
This eagerly anticipated department is designed to complement the expertise of CMH surgeons, the capabilities of the hospital staff, and the advanced technology used in today’s procedures.
Centrally located in the hospital, the new surgical suite will be well situated for inpatient and outpatient surgery. Already half of the surgery performed at CMH, same day surgery will be an intergral part of the new department.
The waiting area for families of surgical patients will be located on the second floor near the elevators. The Auxiliary’s gift shop and coffee shop will move to this area to be available to visitors. The chapel and a consultation room
