same kinds of assistance described above to eligible persons. Eligibility requirements for this service include both financial and physical need. Eligibility is determined by a nursing home pre-admission screening team located either in a hospital or formed by staff from local health and social services agencies.
The Services Center also operates a Home Delivered Meals program available to support older persons who have no one in the home to cook for them and cannot do so themselves. Home Delivered Meals are sometimes combined with Homemaker or Personal Care services to provide support on days when there is no aide in the home.
The demand for in-home care is so great that all of these programs are fully utilized. The Homemaker program currently has a lengthy waiting list. Additional workers are also needed, especially those who have already completed Geriatric Aide training or a similar course. The Center also provides training as needed.
Costs for these in-home services vary. Those which are supported by Medicaid may require a co-payment. Donations are requested for the other services, based on a sliding scale which reflects the individual’s ability to pay. For persons with sufficient private resources, a referral list of private providers is also available.
