Lewis was not wearing a seat belt. “If his seat belt had been in use, there would probably have been little or no injury,” the trooper said Monday. He added that his investigation into the accident is continuing.
Gordon Thornhill, manager of the Rappahannock Farmers' Cooperative where Mr. Lewis had worked for many years, said that the store is collecting money for the Lewis family. Mr. Thornhill said Tuesday that, if a sizable amount of money is donated, he is looking into establishing a trust fund for Mr. Lewis's daughter. Otherwise, he said, the money will be turned over to the Lewis family.
Mr. Thornhill said he has already consulted with a lawyer about howto establish a trust fund for the little girl.
