only one of numerous appropriations that constitute foreign aid, and that some of this “aid” actually goes to Communist nations from whom we are forced to defend ourselves with a $300 billion defense budget.
The United States has been adding deficits of over $150 billion per year for the past six years and should not be giving away money to anyone. How can any sane person suggest that the Constitution is at fault when there is no provision in it for foreign aid, or for a host of other costly programs used by politicians to buy votes for themselves? Howcan a nation so enormously in debt, give away so much money?
The recent declarations of support for a balanced budget amendment by President Bush and former President Reagan are a political shell game that enables them to deflect attention away fropi the real issue.
There are too many Constitutional Convention supporters who have already compiled a “Constitution-wrecking” agenda of their own, should one be held.
Congress should use its authority to balance the budget, and the President should help by using his veto power. In the end, adherence to the Constitution, not tinkering with it and demeaning it, is the key to reversing the horrifying spiral of indebtedness facing the American people.
