Scrap benefits class trip
The Rappahannock County Elementary School and RALLY urge county residents to continue to save their aluminum beverage cans. Although the county recycling day has been suspended temporarily, on Saturday, April 1, during County Beautification Day, cans and other aluminum (please bag separately) will be collected from 9:3011:30 a.m. at the Rec Center to benefit the seventh-grade Class of 1990’s trip to Williamsburg. Drivers will also be needed to transport the aluminum to Front Royal after the drive is completed. County Beautification Day
The Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY) will sponsor its annual County Beautification Day on Saturday, April 1. Planned as a cleanup of the most litter-strewn areas of the county, RALLY is encouraging the participation of as many of the county's residents as possible. T-shirts and refreshments will be provided for all. The rain date is the following Saturday, April 8. Library poetry series
The series "Making It New — the Origins of Modern Poetry,” sponsored by the Rappahannock County Library continues with a discussion and video of works of the unusual poet, Elizabeth Bishop. The program will be held at the new auditorium at Rappahannock County High School at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4. The large-screen video program (originally shown on PBS) shows exotic documentary footage of Brazilian and North American images and artifacts which convey Bishop’s acute visual sense and her penetrating, idiosyncratic attention to poetic detail. The discussion will be led by George Mason University English professor and award-winning poet Peter Klappert. The poetry series is made possible through a grant from the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Arts. Spaghetti dinner
The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department will be sponsoring a spaghetti dinnee on Saturday, April 1 at the fire hall, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door only.
Lions benefit auction
The Rappahannock Lions Club auction is planned for Saturday, May 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Washington fire hall. Proceeds will be applied toward Rappahannock County Lions Club projects, including sight and hearing screening, seventh-grade field trip, youth athletics, Bland contest, diabetes, senior citizens, mental health, scholarship(s), drug awareness and others. Donations of new, renewed and/or usable items are needed. Cash donations are accepted, however food and clothing are not acceptable. All donations are tax deductible.
