“A lot of credit should go to the foresight of the citizens, governing bodies, administrative personnel, and the children themselves,” he added.
Mr. Fountain is concerned about the difficulty -the school system has had keeping black teachers.
He believes that the difficulty stems from the small size of the black community here and the lack of a social life. “I don’t see on the part of the system anything racially motivated against minorities,” he said.
“It’s tough on an outsider coming in,” he said. “There’s not much going on for young whites either. I was able to do it because I was married and had my family. If you’re single, it’s tough. We enjoy this beautiful countryside, but there is a price we pay.”
He believes it is important for all students to see black role models in responsible positions.
