“Janet will make a ‘wattle gate’ of woven grasses and weeds for here,” she said, pointing to the lower section of gates. An upper gate in the style of a picket opens to fresh flowers, a lower gate seeming like a window with a cloth background opens to another arrangement. Together the gates open a new beginning for the artist.
A graduate of George Washington University Art School, Mrs. Manookian started coming to Rappahannock County with her late husband in 1962. She has painted professionally since 1974. This is her third one-woman show, the second at Middle Street Gallery — the first being in 1982 before the gallery was a cooperative.,
