Fire department dance
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. The band “Cross Country” will be playing. You must be 21 years of age to attend. Cost is $8 per person with proceeds to benefit the fire department.
CSC Transit holiday
CSC Transit will not operate on Monday, May 27, Memorial Day. CSC Transit is a program of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board.
Bake sale planned
The Rappahannock Senior Citizens will hold a bake sale at the meals site at Trinity Episcopal Church from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24. Proceeds from the sale will go into a fund to allow the seniors to participate in field trips. “Several favorites will be available and everyone is urged to stock up for the Memorial Day holiday!” saies a spokesperson.
Class reunion planned
A ten-year class reunion for the 1981 graduating class of Rappahannock County High School is in the early planning stages. Call Rhonda (Foster) Breeden at 703-825-5321 to volunteer assistance with planning, provide your current mailing address or to find out further information.
Help for abusers, victims '
Services for Abused Families Inc. of Culpeper sponsors weekly support groups for abusers and the victims of domestic violence. A group for women with relationship problems meets at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday and a similar group for men with problems including anger and violence meets at 6:30 p.m. each Monday. The location of these meetings is confidential. For more information, call SAFE (825-8876 or 349-0309). Individual counseling is also available; there is no charge for these services.
Weight-control camp
The Virginia Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor a youth weight-control camp June 12-16 at the Smith Mountain Lake 4-H Center.
“Camp Lighten Up” will feature a youth-oriented program to develop weight-control management, self-esteem and behavior modification. ,

Support group to meet
An Adult Children Anonymous (ACA) support group for adults from disfunctional families meets at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at Reynolds Memorial Baptist in Sperryville. The group meets to share experiences, strengths and hopes. For more information call 987-8953 or 987-8721.
