gifted and talented students, “but those in the middle of the road, I don’t see that much done for them.”

He does notice some differences between today’s students and those he first taught. “Kids today are more vocal,” he said. “They’ll ask ‘why’ more, which is both good and bad.”

He sees the lives of parents changing also. “I see a great amount of support by parents, but I also see parents who are too busy trying to make a livelihood for the family and are really unable to give support to the school,” he said.

“They will get up at three or four in the morning to travel to work. When they get home, they’re tired,” he said.

Mr. Fountain has not decided what he will be doing after he retires.

“It’s too early to say,” he said. Both his children are grown and working in the electronics industry.

“I would like to express my appreciation to this community for the support given me these many years,” he said. “Without that support I would not have experienced the degree of success I have had. Although society is changing in many ways, our children are very precious, and they have been able to maintain a respect for authority.”
