get degrees
Longwood College awarded degrees to 648 graduates, the largest number in the college’s history, at Commencement on Saturday, May 11.
Among the graduates were: Amy Leigh Neal, of Amissville, bachelor’s degree in chemistry; Christine Dawn Meadows, of Amissville, bachelor’s degree in physical education; Bonnie Ann Grimsley, of Huntly, bachelor’s degree in Administration.
Gov. L. Douglas Wilder gave the commencement address. He told the graduates that success and lasting happiness come to those who live by a set of values - “the values of discipline, integrity, thrift, hard work, family loyalty, and caring.
“Success is not reflected so much in a hefty bank balance as it is in a healthy balance between a person’s family and a person’s career,” he said.
Gov. Wilder received the honorary doctor of laws degree from Longwood, in recognition of his “impressive career and contributions in public service.”
