think we’ve increased the morale of students, teachers and parents,” he said. He believes that parents feel more welcome in the building and as a result are involved and helping as volunteers more.
Another accomplishment he cited is the new schedule which increased the amount of time in the school day devoted to academics.
“We’ve emphasized math and science,” he said. He is particularly pleased with the 2-year-old Science Fair and the success local students have had in the regional fair. He was involved in the regional fair in Charlottesville for years before coming to Rappahannock and plans to continue that after he leaves.
“I’ve also enjoyed working with Whole Language,” he said. “We’ve gotten off to a real good start. When I go into the classrooms, there’s no doubt our students have more fun using whole language. They’re enjoying reading and writing.”
Whatever the future holds, Mr. Chesshir knows he will miss Rappahannock. “It’s a very special place,” he said.
