That’s how the Wakefield District Supervisor described the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors’ decision Monday to increase school funding for the coming fiscal year, but not as much as the County School Board wanted.
The move left tax-weary citizens disgruntled and school .proponents unsatisfied.
The supervisors approved $12,096,934 for Rappahannock public schools for fiscal 2007-08. County funds will account for $8,288,389 of that total.
The amount was $310,000 more than the schools received from the county last year, but it was still less than the $494,968 increase the School Board requested.
The schools’ requested increase would have required a property-tax increase of 3 cents per $100 of land value. The increase approved by the supervisors will require a 1-cent tax hike.
“When I proposed the budget this year; I proposed it keeping the kids in mind," Superintendent Bob ChappeU said before the board made its decision. “I have no regrets for proposing the budget I did."
He also added, “Whether it’s 0 or $494,000 or somewhere in between the response you’re gonna get from me is thank you."
