‘Tour the World with Music’

“Tour the World with Music” is the title chosen by the Washington Saxophone Quartet for their concert this year at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia on Saturday, May 19 at 8 p.m.
WSaxQ, as the Washington Saxophone Quartet is popularly known, is certainly the most widely heard saxophone quartet in the United States and it is probably one of the oldest, if not the oldest, such quartet in the world. For the last 20 years, recorded arrangements by the Quartet have aired throughout the United States on National Public Radio’s broadcasts of All Things Considered. And the Quartet was formed some 10 years earlier so that it is now celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of its founding.
Supporting its concept of a musical travelogue, the Washington Saxophone Quartet promises that it will take the audience “to three exotic places (England, Germany and Egypt) with one piece of music ... George Frederick Handel’s Solomon,” and then on to “dance the tango in a 1960 Night Club in Argentina with the music of Astor Piazzolta.” They will play music from the very place, Belgium, where the saxophone was invented - “no other instrument can say that.” Further details of the program for the
