meet four brood mares; one of them has produced two national champions! And I saw a whole host of colts and fillies who had just been prettied up before having their professional portraits taken by a photographer.
Much of the work here revolves around preparation for and participation in horse shows. The horses here are shown all over the world. So for part of the year, primarily the winter, there’s a lot of travel for Rob and Jen and the horses. Rob told me a little bit about getting the horses to overseas shows. They travel in cargo planes fitted to accommodate four horses. They’re given a “cocktail” ahead of time to ease the stress of the flight. But overall, Rob says, the horses are excellent travelers. They’re certainly experienced travelers even if they have no frequent flyer miles to show for it!
And then they come back to this beautiful facility. If I were a horse I would definitely consider this living in the lap of luxury. Of course, as part of their conditioning, there is a treadmill for horses. Even for the horses, it’s not all play!
