The number of notifications rose as well. Virginians made 1,895 referrals about suspected insurance fraud to the IFP in 2006, up almost 16 percent over 2005.

IFP special agents brought 119 cases to commonwealth’s attorneys in 2006, a 36 percent increase over 2005. The number of cases adjudicated in 2006 tripled - from 108 in 2005 to 333 in 2006.

There’s a message behind these statistics: cooperative relationships between local, state and federal law enforcement, judicial agencies, insurance industry leaders, and ordinary citizens can indeed bring insurance fraud to a halt
