It was the ninth Gold Cup victory for Fisher, the first for Miller. Miller’s sister Blythe won the 2002 Cup aboard Naylor’s Make Me A Champ. It was Naylor’s second Gold Cup.
Naylor has long been one of America’s strongest supporters of timber racing. An amateur timber jockey until a 1999 fall at the Maryland Grand National left him partially paralyzed, Naylor helped create the World Timber Championship in 1997, a short-lived $100,000 bonus connecting the Gold Cup with a rich timber race in England.
