the planning of the project, however, the county was horrified to hear of the tragedy at Virginia Tech that took one of their own.
When Sours sent the artists the photographs she had collected to help plan the design of the murals, she told them about Emily Hilscher, what she meant to the school and community, and how difficult it was for some students to move on. The artists donated two additional canvases that would be painted in memory of Hilscher.
Both canvases, one measuring 6 by 9 feet and the other measuring 6 by 6 feet, were painted with 32 doves. The larger canvas has two translucent holding hands in the center overlaying the doves. The painting will hang in the high school commons in memory of Emily Hilscher. The other canvas has doves flying over a Virginia Tech building and will be delivered to Virginia Tech to hang there. Both murals have a large dove in the center with a blue eye representative of Hilschervs dazzling blue eyes.
