Over 50 actors ranging from 4 to 87 years of age auditioned for the Shakespearean Panorama. All were exceptionally professional about the manner in which they handled the grueling 15 to 20 minute i session. They were asked to show their skills.
Skills
Each actor presented a short story about their favorite person, place, or thing and were asked to “imagine” it so vividly that the audience could see it as well. They were given a speech for a “cold read” material they had never seen before. After demonstrating their vocal talents, they were asked to read from the script, sometimes the speech of a witch, hero, or lover and expected to show a sense that they could take on the character physically. Finally, they were asked to move with accompanying music and alter their performance when directorial instruction was given.
Throughout the audition, the actors knew that they were also being evaluated on their personal sense of self, the way in which they would handled themselves as a part of an “ensemble” or team. Without exception, they gave outstanding auditions, making it even more difficult for the director and production staff to make choices of which actor would play what role.
