When a juvenile male disappeared from school last month, the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office had a new means of communicating information to the general public.
The RCSO is now participating in the “A Child is Missing” alert program, a non-profit organization that is designed to help law enforcement search for missing children, missing elderly, and missing disabled persons.
According to Major Christopher Williams the RCSO can use the system anytime a child is threatened or a person is missing. “Each time we get a call concerning a missing person, our first call will be to this program,” he said.
RCSO deputies are trained to provide the Florida based organization with information concerning the missing person. The alert system projects a call map for a given area from its database and sends a customized recorded message with a description and last known location of the missing person. The message will include a telephone number for the RCSO and encourage people to call if they have any information.
