How to stamp out fraud BE AWARE of staged accidents, such as intentional sideswiping or cars cutting in front of other vehicles to force collisions. BE AWARE of individuals who encourage you to leave the scene of an accident without obtaining a police report. BE AWARE that some individuals falsify vehicle damage and passenger injuries following accidents. To record accurate information, keep a disposable camera in your car to photograph all vehicles’ damages, and record names and license numbers of involved drivers and their passengers. BE AWARE of individuals making a false, stolen vehicle claim to dispose of the vehicle or to cover previous damage. BE AWARE of individuals who claim no previous injuries, continue unnecessary medical treatment or inflate medical benefits. BE AWARE of fraud rings that specialize in slip-and-fall schemes with faked injuries and false claims. BE AWARE of individuals reporting fake burglary or theft claims. BE AWARE that some individuals report damage as vandalism in an attempt to cover deliberate or previous damage to one’s own property. BE AWARE of individuals who fake on-the-job injuries or stay off work after healing to collect Workers’ Compensation benefits. BE AWARE that all employers must carry workers’ comp insurance, but v, they can protect themselves by providing all employees with a written policy and by encouraging reports of suspicious injuries. BE AWARE of the possibility that someone may set a small fire in their home to obtain a new paint or remodeling job. BE AWARE that individuals may inflate a genuine claim to recover past premiums or cover a policy deductible. BE AWARE of claims that “everybody is getting rich” so you may as well commit insurance fraud, too.
