It was announced on Tuesday that Bob Czekaj will
become the new athletic director. There's probably
not a more able person to tackle this job but it isn't going to be easy. Czekaj has also been asked to leach a couple of math classes, continue coaching the varsity boys basketball team plus take on the responsibilities of athletic director.
Czekaj is no stranger at the school and this position may just solidify his already active role in the sports program. He's also a member of the sports boosters association.
For Czekaj, this will combine lots of roles - all fostering his commitment and advocacy for Rappahannock County Public Schools and their oft criticized sports program.
During the past years, there have been many athletic directors and they have all left for a variety of reasons. But the point is, they have left and when they leave it's just another hole to fill with lost continuity.
Superintendent of Schools Dr . Robert Chappell is hopeful that this scenario will change now with Czekaj stepping in to take the lead.
Something has to change in order for the sports program to get the boost that it so dearly deserves and needs.
Czekaj is coming in after several applicants were interviewed for this position. He's ready and he's excited. He will also need a lot of support as he attempts to juggle lots of roles.
With a tightened budget and some at last week's public hearing arguing that an athletic director isn't even needed, Czekaj will now face the challenge of combining all of his loves - teaching, coaching, parenting, and now administering - on a very full plate.

Hopefully your leadership and stamina will be the start of something new.
