Crocker also noted that the Board was looking forward to the school’s efficiency review by the State proposed for next Call. “We must continue to find ways to be efficient in our operations without sacrificing our quality,” she said.

The largest cut within the budget was the proposed 4.5 percent raise for RCPS employees. That raise was reduced to 3.5 percent, a budget decrease of $49,723. The board also approved to increase the starting salary for teachers to $36,383. Chappell noted that the Board’s finance committee will make adjustments to the first few experience steps in salary to keep expenses within the budget limits.
Among the reductions made in the proposed budget was the elimination of a proposed physical education (PE) aide which saved $26,200. Chappell said that the school board is looking at options within the current staff to increase the amount of PE sections. $10,000 was saved by asking the new athletic director, Bob Czekaj, to teach two math classes, allowing the administration to streamline the role of a new position.
This year’s budget called for a $28,525 in costs to participate in the Mountain Vista Governor’s School. The actual .figures released by the MVGS revised budget found the amount to be about $2,435 less than proposed.
The board also voted to hire a part time wing custodian. Currently the job is completed by a contracted service out of Culpeper. The School Board found that they could hire a part time custodian
