Ruritans Meet

Amissville Ruritan Club members were treated to an excellent presentation on crabbing at the group’s September meeting.

Freeland Mason of Warrenton, who gets his crab pots in the Tidewater area between the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers, explained techniques of crabbing and the difference between jimmies, peelers and mixed crabs. He compared the harvest of crabs by watermen to use of land by farmers, noting that the fates of both are dictated by nature and the market. The Ruritans are currently preparing for their annual spaghetti dinner scheduled for Saturday, October 23, at the Amissville Fire Hall. The public is invited to enjoy spaghetti, salad, bread, iced tea or coffee at S2.50 for adults, $4 all-you-can-eat, $1 for children and $9 for the family plan. Tickets can be obtained from any Ruritan. Prices for the spaghetti dinner will be $1 more for adults and 50 cents more for children at the door.
