Wakefield School senior Lawrence P. Doherty, 17year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Doherty of Winchester, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist for 1982.

Semifinalists qualify on the basis of their scores on the PSAT-NMQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude TestNational Merit Qualifying Test) administered to over one million U.S. secondary school students each October. Nationally, about 15,000 qualified for the distinction, representing the top half of one percent of the nation’s high school graduating class. On the state level, Doherty was one of only 325 Virginia students to rank as a Semifinalist.
