The RappahannockRapidan Area Agency on Aging learned Iasi week that its older workers providing homemaker-home health aide services will lose their jobs on September 30 as a result of President Reagar's recent veto of the supplemental appropriations bill.
The impact of this news on the workers themselves is devastating because it means the elimination of their only source of earnings, according to Sally Morgan, Area Agency on Aging Director.
“The ten homemaker home health aides serving this area (Planning District 9) are employed under Title V of the Older Americans Act, which is an older workers program for people who are 55 or over and who have extremely limited incomes," Morgan said. “The workers earn minimum wage for 24 hours of work each week. As one of the homemakers said when told of the threat to her job, ‘You realize it's my grocery money we're talking about,’ ” Morgan reported, adding that Rappahannock County has both
