Dear Dr Vogel.
I have warts on the bottom ot my feet that have been removed several times but they keep coming back What causes them and what can be done for them
R S Warrenton. Va Dear R S
Warts are caused by a virus in which a small percentage of the population have a lowered resistance Some can be extremely difficult to eradicate It is important to be sure they are actually warts and not another type of growth that is caused by pressure A foot specialist can usually determine this
Dear Dr Vogel
Many of the people in my family have "bunions" I think I have them also Are they inherited9
T R Manassas. Va Dear T R
Bunions are not inherited and are definitely not caused by tight shoes People in Africa who have never worn shoes in their lives have developed the problem They are caused by a misalignment of the foot (which can be inherited), and a weakening and a deformation of a joint II the misalignment is treated early enough many times the deformity can be prevented or at least not allowed to worsen
