Center. Dr. Joseph Alexander, coordinator of the surgical service of the VMTH and acting chairman of the Division of Agricultural and Urban Practice, is chairman of the committee. The College hopes to complete the search and announce the appointment of the director by January 1983.

“When the doors open at the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center, we expect to have four clinicians, one of who will be the director. The clinicians will represent various specialties in equine medicine and surgery and, although they will be based in Leesburg, each will be a member of one of the academic divisions of the college and will share in the program implementation and operational responsibilities of the college,” Dr. Talbot said.

The two facilities will be linked by computer to aid communication. In addition, plans have been made for a charter air service to transport personnel to and from northern Virginia and Blacksburg.

Initially, the equine center will provide patient housing for 30 horses and facilities for examination and special procedures, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, intensive care, radiology, physical therapy, and pathology. There will be a general reception area, a medical records section, and other administrative offices. In addition, there will be a pharmacy, seminar rooms, and a library.
