Routs Flyers
Wakefield School’s varsity soccer team won its opening match of the season on Sunday, defeating the Fairfax Flyers at Lord Fairfax Community College by a score of 8-3. Dominating the field for the entire game, the Wakefield Owls even managed to keep the upper hand while playing their second string team during most of the second half. Goals for Wakefield were scored by senior Scott Favre, juniors John O’Neill and Val Paluch, and by sophomore Charles Rowzie. Wakefield goal keepers were Daniel Clark and Geoff Clouser.

Winners
Don Brown and Rayner Snead were the winners last Saturday in the 50s and over tennis tournament sponsored by the Rappahannock Recreation Authority on the county park’s courts.
In the first round of doubles play. Brown and Snead defeated Fanning Baumgardner and Dick Latham, 6-0, 6-0. Action on the second court saw Bemie Dahlgren and Avery Faulkner down Homer Henry and Bobby Gehringer, 6-3, 60.
In the championship, the team of Brown and Snead beat Dahlgren and Faulkner, 6-2. 6-1. The winners were presented with engraved Jefferson pewter cups. In the consolation game, Gehringer and Henry were the winners against Baumgardner and Latham, 6-0. 6-0. ‘‘It was good tennis,” reported Jean Lillard, tournament organizer. "The games were much closer than the scores indicate.”
