After the whistle sounded, a depressed Rappahannock team shook itself off and began to regroup for this week's contest against crosscounty rival Wakefield Country Day School. Several of the Panthers voiced grudging admiration for the players who had just buried them under an avalanche of soccer skills: “We never saw a defense like that before! They were really good—the best ever that I’ve played against,” remarked one Panther, a veteran of several year's competition in Fauquier’s adult soccer league.
But instead of dejection, the RCHS squad displayed cautious optimism, agreeing that after Thursday’s loss, there’s no place to go but up.
This Friday’s game against Wakefield begins at 4 p.m. on the Huntly school’s field.
