Dr. Jerry Martin of the Rappahannock Medical Center said that hay fever is a common complaint at the center, and is treated in various ways, by antihistamines to control symptoms and, in extreme cases, by steroid shots to relieve inflammation. Martin said that mild cases may benefit from over-the-counter allergy remedies.
Old-timers had folk remedies to fall back on when the blossoming of ragweed brought on a siege of sneezing and coughing.
