The EMS management course was prompted, by the recent automobile and tractor trailer accident near Woodville which left one child dead and eight persons injured, the fireman added.
Fairfax City’s tactics trailer will oe at Amissville for the Fire Officer 1 class. “It’s an important course for junior officers, captains and lieutenants — even chiefs if they haven't already had the training.” Huff said.
A second trailer holds a breathing apparatus maze. “It has a bunch of situations built in. Everyone who goes through the maze is kept under a watchful eye but it puts you on your own and makes you remember how to use your breathing apparatus,” said Huff. “It's great for building a junior firefighter’s self-confidence. He can prove to himself that he does know what to do.”
The Amissville school will also offer the standard class in structural firefighting and breathing apparatus. “We’ll set an actual fire (in the special structure provided for this purpose) and send a group in with an instructor.” Huff said.
