Re your article on soccer in last week’s Sports column, it should be pointed out, with all due respect for the efforts of Don Keithley on behalf of soccer in Rappahannock, that soccer in Rappahannock County was actually introduced by Wakefield School nine years ago. Wakefield School has fielded soccer teams for various age groups continuously since 1973, when the school was founded. In addition to the school’s regular soccer program, Wakefield in many years past has sponsored two soccer clinics (run by professional soccer players) that were open to all area youths.
