How would you feel if you worked for one of these federal agencies that were faced with the possibility of a furlough and some senator voted with the president and you would not get a pay check. Would you like it? No, you would not. Because if there had not been senators like Mark Hatfield, some fellow Virginians might have gone hungry and unable to pay their rent
Then to hear the president of these United States say that he did not know the elderly and senior citizens would be hurt by this bill. What country has he been living in? If I recall correctly, it was brought out on David Brinkley’s program on Sunday that the president had twice , vetoed this program whidi helps elderly people to find jobs. I resent the way the elderly are being treated by onr president. I voted for you in 1980. In 1984 I will raise my voice.
