under construction at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The 200-acre construction site at Morven Park was donated to Virginia Tech by the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation. Mrs. Marion duPont Scott of Montpelier in Orange County, Va., provided $4 million for construction of the equine center and simultaneously challenged other Virginia horse owners and breeders to provide at least $2 million toward construction of the main hospital facilities in Blacksburg.
“Mrs. Scott showed great foresight in issuing that challenge,” says Dr. Richard B. Talbot, dean of the college. “For until the main hospital facility is complete, the satellite facility will not realize its full potential for service, research and instruction.” A major capital campaign is underway to raise $8 million in non-state funds to begin construction of the main teaching hospital facilities in Blacksburg. The total cost of the facility is estimated at $16 million.
“The equine center at Morven Park will operate as part of the teaching hospital program," explained Dr. Pyle. “Both facilities will share the primary objectives of service, research and instruction, and faculty specialists will be on call to assist in cases at either location.”
